LECTURE/DINNER WITH JUDGE JACK SHERMAN

Big Moose Lake was the site of one of the most famous murder cases in the twentieth century, the Chester Gillette/Grace Brown murder case of 1906 . It is still studied today as a model case of "circumstantial" evidence. It is also the topic of several Adirondack folk songs and ghost stories. The Big Moose Inn will be hosting a booksigning party for Judge Jack Serman and dinner for those 1/2 hour lecture/booksigning is free and open to the public. "Jack Sherman is the Tompkins County Judge in Ithaca. For over 30 years, he has researched the Chester Gillette case, beginning with his first job as an Assistant District Attorney in Herkimer County in 1977. Gillette was convicted in Herkimer of the murder of Grace Brown in 1906, and executed at Auburn Prison in 1908. The Gillette case became the basis for Theodore Dreiser's classic "An American Tragedy", the movie "A Place in the Sun", and a recent opera performed at the Metropolitan Opera. The Lecture/Reception is free. Make reservations now for fine dining available following the lecture.

MURDERY MYSTERY DINNER THEATER: "Murder In Bogart's Shadow"

Saturday, October 11 (Columbus Day Weekend) 5:30-9:00 pm (Early Reservations Strongly Encouraged For This Popular Event)

Combine the eccentric members of the Bogart Society, their infamous guest speaker, a strange professor and his even stranger daughter, delicious food, and of course, a murder, and you have MURDER IN BOGART'S SHADOW. Written by Jeffrey Adams, this interactive comic mystery performed by the Prodigy Players of Ilion, NY, will keep you guessing until the last moment. As always, the audience is invited to participate in solving this who-done-it. So come dressed as your favorite Bogart character, pack your "heat", or just come as you are. Whatever your attire, the evening promises to be entertaining and fun.
